Cockapoo coats keep growing rather than shedding out, so loose hair stays in the coat and forms matts close to the skin — usually behind the ears, in the armpits and along the collar line first. Coat type varies enormously between individuals, from loose waves to tight curls, and the tighter the curl the faster it packs. Puppy coats also change texture between roughly eight and twelve months, which catches many owners out.

Every 6–8 weeks without exception, plus brushing at home two or three times a week right down to the skin — not just over the surface. Curly coats matt from the base up, so a coat that looks fine on top can be solid underneath.
Most likely the puppy coat changed to the adult coat, which happens somewhere between eight and twelve months and usually brings a denser, curlier texture. Brushing that worked before stops being enough almost overnight.
Yes, provided the coat is matt-free and you can maintain it at home between visits on a 6 week cycle. If the coat has already matted to the skin we will be honest with you and recommend a shorter groom — dematting a solid coat is painful and we will not put a dog through it.
