Understanding the Bichon Frise coat

Bichons have a soft, curly coat that keeps growing and holds shed hair inside the curl. That trapped hair is what turns into mats, especially behind the ears, under the collar and on the legs. A thorough blow-dry straightens the curl so the coat can be scissored into an even, rounded pet shape.

Hair that keeps growing rather than shedding out, so it mats without regular clipping and scissor work. These breeds need a full groom on a strict cycle. That puts Bichon Frises on our Signature Full Groom package.

Built for Bichon Frises

Best for: Bichons on a 4–6 week cycle, with brushing down to the skin several times a week.

Not suited to: Elaborate show scissoring, which is not included at the base price. If the coat has matted, a shorter trim is the kinder option.

Bichon Frise grooming questions

Why does my Bichon mat so quickly?

Bichons do not shed hair out of the coat — it stays trapped in the curl. Without frequent brushing, that hair packs into mats.

Is a show-style Bichon trim included?

The £65 Full Groom is a rounded pet finish. Elaborate show-style scissoring is not included at that price.
