Understanding the Labrador coat
Labradors have a short but genuinely double coat with a greasy, water-repellent topcoat over a soft undercoat. Because the hair is short, owners often underestimate how much comes out — it lodges in carpets and car seats year round. The greasy topcoat also holds pond and mud smell, so it needs a degreasing wash rather than a quick rinse.
Two layers — a coarse topcoat over a dense undercoat that blows out twice a year. These coats are never clipped short; they are washed, blown out and de-shedded. That puts Labradors on our Signature Bath & Style package.

Do Labradors need professional grooming at all?
They benefit from it more than most owners expect. A professional high-velocity dry and carding removes dead undercoat that hand brushing leaves behind, which noticeably reduces shedding at home for several weeks.
My Labrador always smells after swimming — can you help?
Yes. The topcoat is oily and holds water-borne smells. We use a degreasing shampoo and dry the coat right through to the skin, which removes the odour at source rather than masking it.
How often should a Labrador be groomed?
Every 6–8 weeks suits most Labs, moving to every 4–6 weeks in spring and autumn or if your dog swims regularly.
